You cannot have your cake and eat it

Suddenly, foreign language instruction, especially in English, has been socially a growing trend among the Korean parents, so they send their children to study abroad or to the kindergarten where teachers teach English. However, there are several problems in the early-childhood English education. First of all, children's identities are not established yet. Children do not know Korean and who they are even, so they first have to know Korean and Korean culture. If they start to learn English in kindergarten, they can be confused between two cultures. In Korea, as a Korean, they use Korean in their daily lives, so they are not accustomed to English which is based on the western culture. Also, children can suffer from the heavy pressure. Teachers can give them some homework such as memorizing English words, but most of the students are under a lot of stress when they do their assignments, and so do children. Comparing with other children, they think they have to do well. Then, because of this stress, they can have a physical or mental disability. In addition, children did not decide to study English. Children should experience in various areas in order to find their dreams. There is more to life than just English. They should have a variety of experiences particularly in the field of music, art and physical education as a child, but their parents just force English on them. In conclusion, because of childhood English education, children can be confused about their identities and burden themselves with English. Also, they should make their own decisions about their dreams. Therefore, English instruction should not begin in kindergarten.

  1. 1. your main point seemed that English education should not begin in the kindergarten.

    2. I particularly like your general idea. I always think that early instruction on foreign languages has merits. You gave me a chance to rethink about this issue.

    3. The word 'Indentity' is quite powerful. Koreans tend to lose their own identity, as a Korean. This word reminds me of the reality of Korean Education, which neglect teaching something Korean.

    4. Your essay has introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. but why don't you separate each part? ^^

    5. Every reasons are clear to me, but the last reason are little confusing. I think, it is too early for preschoolers to experience various areas. I mean, it may be ok to concentrating on languages in kindergarten. After that, they can have a lot of experiences.

  2. 1. What I really like about your writing the most is the title. As it implies what you want to say through your writing, it's clear and appropriate.

    2. The point is learning foreign language in the kindergarten is too early.

    3. I like your the other reasons, but in the last part, "they have to make their own decision"
this is a little strange for me to understand, I think they are too young to make a decision...
And "a lot of assignment in Kindergarten" ..this sounds a little akward to me as well.

First of all, children’s identities are not established yet. Children do not know Korean and who they are even, so they first have to know Korean which is a native language and Korean culture. If they start to learn English in kindergarten, they can be confused between two cultures. In Korea, as a Korean, they use Korean in their daily lives, so they are not accustomed to English which is based on the western culture.

Also, children can suffer from the heavy pressure. Teachers can give them some homework such as memorizing English words, but most of the high school or university students are under a lot of stress when they do their assignments, and so do children. Comparing with other children, they think they have to do well. Then, because of this stress, they can have a bad effect on the children’s emotions. Further, they can have physical and mental disabilities.

  4. In addition, Parents should help to learn a variety of fields and not just for English. Children should experience in various areas in order to find their dreams or aptitudes. There is more to life than just English. They should have a variety of experiences for sociality particularly in the field of music, art and physical education as a child, but their parents just force English on them. They can learn English whenever they are interested in it, and it doesn’t matter the age in the study.

In conclusion, because of childhood English education, children can be confused about their identities and burden themselves with English. Also, they should experience many things as a child. Therefore, English instruction should not begin in kindergarten.
