Yoon JinSoo, 5 paragraph essay about holiday

Cry for freedom

Yoon JinSoo

March 1st in 1919, old and wood-made door opened. A man's head came out.

He looked around carefully. The door of another house opened and a boy ran out.

The boy stared at the man and smiled. The man nodded with determined attitude.

Finally the man came out from his house completely and headed to main street.

Many people followed him. In that day, country was filled with crowd's voice.

"Hurrah for Korea independence". People screamed that sentence again and

again. March 1st is independence movement day of Korea. Many people died

while they were demonstrating for independence. So we commemorate that

day every year to remember them.

In march 1st, we always display our national flag, Taegukki. Actually, we

hoist our national flag in special form in sad days. Independence movement

day looks like sad holiday, but we don't raise our national flag in special form.

Because we are proud of our ancestor's brave. Of course we cherish the

memory of our ancestors but also we celebrate our independence and thank

to our ancestors. So we hoist Taegukki in normal form at early morning.

Second, we prepare ancestral rites table for dead' spirits. There are

several rules for setting tables. First thing is about fruits. On middle of first

row, people usually put red fruits on the east side, white fruits on the west

side. Next, between fruits, people set up some jujubes, chestnuts, pears

and dried persimmons. Second, fish jerkies, herbs, soy sauce and rice

drink are set up on second row. Dry foods(Fish jerkies) must be displayed

to west side, and wet foods must be at east. There are several more

regulations that we have to observe, but that's too many to write.

They are kind of traditional rules that are succeeded from past. People

believe that if they observe rules well, spirits will be comfortable.

Last, people pray for their ancestors. Most of people make a deep

bow in front of ancestor's grave, but at the large ceremony, many priests

and monks come and progress their own rituals. In that day, they pray

and bow in front of the monument without enmity. President of korea

usually attend ceremony. All of people became together by proud

and respect.

In fact, independence movement in march 1st, 1919 didn't change

Japan's ruling powers. Japan ignored and suppressed us continuosly.

Even Japan's police are not attacked by us. People just screamed and

shouted. But it change many things. People got brave heart, and hope.

Many intellectuals started to fight with Japan and this movements are

spread over. Korean couldn't forget that day because we are

succeeded brave heart from them

    1. The first part of your writing really impressed me and is interesting enough, as it is so vivid that I feel like I'm reading a novel.

    2. The main point of your writing seems that we display our national flag, set the table for the dead and take a bow for the spirit on independence day.

    3. What I like about your essay is you demonstrated the stages of the holiday with the detail in logical order and you used various vocabulary.

    4. But, the part that makes me a little confused is that you used past tense at the end of the 4th paragraph. It should be present tense..and I can also find a grammatic mistatk like "by pround and respect"..I think "with pride and respect" would be more appropriate.

    1. What I like most abut this essay is the first paragrapt. It makes me read it continuously.

    2. The main point seems people commemorate Independence Movement Day annually to remember ancestor's brave.

    3. The title is powerful to me. It seems it expresses well the situation of that day.

4.I think there aren't unclear thing.

    5. I think if you correct grammatical mistakes such as tense in the last paragraph, your essay would be better.
