What made the Great Depression happen?

No wonder you have heard the Great Depression which was the worst economic depression in US history. The 1930s saw the depression and a number of people in need of clothing, foods, shelters. At that time, one fourth of Americans couldn't find their job. Most production lines were halted. What makes the Great Depression and what are the effects of them?

The most important cause was stock market crash of 1929. It occurred on Black Tuesday, October 29th. After two months, stockholders lost about 40billion dollars. Although times went away, its recovery looked impossible. At the result, the crash made the depression.

Another major cause was bank failure. More 9000 banks failed in the 1930s. It meant that bank deposits were insured and people lost their savings. It's estimated that 4,000 banks failed during 1933 alone. Depositors saw $140 billion disappear.

The other causes were failure of fiscal policy, wrong income distribution, Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, reduction in purchasing across the board, American economic policy with Europe, drought conditions and so on.

Such causes made the Great Depression and affected almost all countries including industrialized countries, which made World trade collapsed. There was a sharp reduction in personal incomes, profits, and tax revenues. Most investors lost a lot of money and most labors lost their jobs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States President in 1933, promised New Deal in which the government would intervene to reduce unemployment by work-creation policy. Above all, we need to be ready to prepare the next crisis in the future.

    1. I like the subject of your writing and it has essential information in each paragraph.

    2. Your main point is the cuases of the Great depression and its effect.

    3. Overall, as your essay includes specific numbers and the fact it looks informative.
But,I think its paragraphs are not really well-balanced in the sense that the introduction and the conclusion are much longer than the others.

    3. However, you need to add more explanation of each cause. For example, I do not understand what stock market crash of 1929.
