PARK JIN-KYUNG cause and efffect essay

200904082 PARK JIN-KYUNG

The Deadly Serial Killer, Black Death

"Bless you"

You may have heard this several times whenever you sneezed. This expression has its origin in medieval Europe when the plague was raging epidemic ;the plague's first symptom was sneezing. The Black death killed almost 25million people throughout Europe only in fourteenth century. This deadly disease caused a big change in European society in many ways.

Firstly, the plague devastated the huge population in Europe and this led to the loss of workforce, causing a wage increase. As the pay rises, the conflicts between the farmers and landlords became aggravated in the agricultural area. As a result, since lots of farmers moved to the cities, the economic system in Europe, which was based on the feudalism and manorialism, was severly hit by the impact of the Black death.

Secondly, the power of the church was substantially weakened after the outbreak of the plague. In the medieval Europe, churches had the absolute power in the society, but as priests got infected when they go pray for the dying people and even Pope died of the plague, people just lost the belief that churches could cure this horrible disease and save their lives. People's disappointment at the inability of the church caused its authority to fall to the bottom.

Finally, the outbreak of the plague affected their mental state and spreaded the pessimism throughout the countries. People were completely petrified when their family and neighbors died and were hopeless in front of the fear of the death. And this atmosphere of horror had people rely too much on the superstitious belief. They thought this was the punishment from God and murdered lots of Jewish people, blaming for killing Jesus Christ or some people committed suicide together, thinking that everything is vain.

The Black death was the most horrible disaster that happened in the entire human history. Not only did it change the society and the economy but it also changed human's heart. Some catastrophes come so abruptly and unexpectedly that people just die before they realize. If this kind of disaster visits us again, what should we do and what can we do?

Buy a great future of Korea music

'Beatles' 350,000,000. 'Michael Jackson' 205,500,000. 'Madonna' 190,000,000. What are these numbers? These are records of album sales in Guinness book. In Beatles' case, the numbers mean 1/20 of world population bought their album. Great musicians and singers earned a lot of money by album sales and they invest money in their music again. But it became different. Since 'MP3 Players' are invented, Korea music industry changed like variety show.

If you search the Korea music charts, you can find that over the 70% of charts are seized by idol group singers. They more focus on their shapes, dance and provocative dresses than their sings. So they are absorbed in appearing TV shows, making fun on online for raising their popularity. As a result, they neglected their music and sings, level of Korea music industry decreased. Why these thing happened?

Since mp3 players were commercialized, most of people downloaded free music files instead of buying albums. Decreasing of album sales made singers poor so singers chose the different way to earn money for living. Nowadays, free music files are disappeared and singers' incomes became better. But many great singers retired or stopped singing already and it makes music fans unsatisfied.

Music fans blame Korea music industry. However they have to think about causes of this changing. They were causes of singers' retiring. They were looking for free music files disregarding there albums. These problems are not about copyright law. These are about future of Korea music industry.

But we can fix it. Fortunately, free music files are disappeared and there are few great singers who didn't retire yet. If you love the music, sometimes play your albums in home enjoying relaxing. Also you can help for Korea music industry's development.

Illegal downloading music

Do you remember Soribada and Bugsmusic? Each was the biggest site of downloading music and sharing music. Needless to say, advertisement was their main source of profits. But a few years ago, there began a strong argument; downloading or sharing music is legal? Why don't we consider copyright of a musician and a composer?

First, we have to consider costs and efforts of music makers such as singers, composers, directors, etc. All the musics are the result of their efforts. If we don't cost right expense, they will not make great exertions to complete music. To listen and enjoy good music, we protect their rights.

Next, there are laws in Korea against free-downloading music. It is a kind of protection of intellectual property rights. The more mature a sense of citizenship is, the more effective laws are. Observing laws about property rights is a measure of our citizen consciousness.

Last, because we want to listen music, we have to pay price of enjoyment. There are costs for everything. The better we want to listen music, the more we have to pay the costs.

Up to now, we have looked over why we must not download and share the music. Music is the result of many people's efforts. And there exists not only property law in Korea but also costs for every enjoyment. I hope we will enjoy a better culture and live a better country.

Jang Jun Hwa, a cause and effect essay

(first draft)

Not Me, You First

A person who is ranked as a figure who Korean want to be like the most. A person who is ranked as the most important CEO who leads the 21st century. Those are the words which describe Ahn Cheol-soo. He is just a professor in a business school and the founder of Ahn Lab. How does Ahn Cheol-soo become the figure who Korean loves and respects the most? What effects does he have on our country? The answer is his contribution to our society.

He has developed a computer security system in Korea. Actually, he was a professor in medical school. While he was studying computer language, he found a computer virus in his disk. Therefore, he invented an anti-virus program called "Vaccine" and did not stop updating it. He finally gave up his occupation and founded Ahn Lab Company which provides anti-virus software. The reason he could quit his job is because he thought that being a virus expert is more meaningful. In other words, nobody wanted to create anti-virus program at that time, because that field was unprofitable. For this reason, Ahn who worried about a Korean computer security system decided to make virus vaccine programs and has distributed them to the individuals for free. Thanks to his effort, Korean can use reliable anti-virus programs without charge.

He is the perfect role model for many CEOs. Because of his free anti-virus programs, McAfee, one of the biggest American companies of a computer security, failed to sell their products. As a result, McAfee tried to take Ahn Lab over, offering $10 million. However, Ahn rejected it, because he thought if he had sold his company, Korean should have paid for anti-virus programs. That's why he gave up being rich.

In his lecture, Ahn said that his mother had an influence on him. His mother always talked to him in an honorific language. It was not until he was 17 that he realized it is not common for mothers to use an honorific form. He often said to people that he learned how to respect others from his mother. Regardless of age or social position, he always does his best to put others first. All his actions such as refusing to sell his company originate from his mother.

Ahn believe that people should attribute their success to our society, so successful people always think over what they can do for public. He changed his job as a virus expert and also turned own a $10 million offer for our community's interests, not his. No matter what we want to be in the future, we have to remember what Ahn did.

What made the Great Depression happen?

No wonder you have heard the Great Depression which was the worst economic depression in US history. The 1930s saw the depression and a number of people in need of clothing, foods, shelters. At that time, one fourth of Americans couldn't find their job. Most production lines were halted. What makes the Great Depression and what are the effects of them?

The most important cause was stock market crash of 1929. It occurred on Black Tuesday, October 29th. After two months, stockholders lost about 40billion dollars. Although times went away, its recovery looked impossible. At the result, the crash made the depression.

Another major cause was bank failure. More 9000 banks failed in the 1930s. It meant that bank deposits were insured and people lost their savings. It's estimated that 4,000 banks failed during 1933 alone. Depositors saw $140 billion disappear.

The other causes were failure of fiscal policy, wrong income distribution, Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, reduction in purchasing across the board, American economic policy with Europe, drought conditions and so on.

Such causes made the Great Depression and affected almost all countries including industrialized countries, which made World trade collapsed. There was a sharp reduction in personal incomes, profits, and tax revenues. Most investors lost a lot of money and most labors lost their jobs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States President in 1933, promised New Deal in which the government would intervene to reduce unemployment by work-creation policy. Above all, we need to be ready to prepare the next crisis in the future.

For what we shot each other

25th, June, 1950, AM 4 o'clock. The thunder of artillery tore the air. Lights were flashed and explosive sounds and screams filled all around. The Korea War was happened because of North Korea's ambush. After the World War 2, the Soviet Union and United States of America entered the Korea peninsula. Soviet was in the North Korea, and U.S.A was in the South Korea. These two powerful nations had different ideologies and it made us to attack each other. This war is saddest happening in Korea history.

Korea war made so many victims. 1.5millions of soldiers and 3millions of civilians were died and most of buildings and factories were destroyed during the war. In fact, after the war, there were just two buildings in PyeongYang, capital city of North Korea. Also most of bodies of dead soldiers and civilians are still buried somewhere.

South and North Korea keep ceasefire so far. It means the North Korea is still our enemy. Because of this, there are so many people who can't meet or make a phone call with their family. This fact is one of the most painful scars. These people, separated families, have lived with worries and longings for their family. They met few times about 7 years ago.

On the other hand, some countries got a great benefit because of this war. Soviet, U.S.A and Japan sold a lot of weapons to North and South Korea and made money. Soviet and U.S.A used that money for restore their losing army and financial power after the World War 2.

Korea war is kind of special happening not only for Korea history but also for international affair. Over the 20 countries entered the war and 4.5millions of people died. Also Korea is only divided country nowadays. Many countries are giving attention to Korea peninsula. There are many benefits that we can get from unification of South and North Korea. So we have to unify as soon as possible.

Gandhi, Mahatma in the world beyond India

Hwang Yoo Jung  200904349

Have you ever seen the paper money of India? It is Gandhi that the person you can see on all paper money in India. Although Gandhi was killed over 70 years ago, his people still lives with him seeing his portrait. Furthermore, the countless number of people around the world has commemorated his contributions. What makes Gandhi one of leaders in the world beyond India? Now to know it better, let's have a closer look at what is the key point of his ideas; how he practiced his ideas in reality; what effects his life has had on his country and the world.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian Independence Movement. So to speak, Gandhi has had spiritually deep influences on almost all areas in India. That is why, first of all, we should understand his ideas and principles rightly to know his life well. Gandhi pioneered "satyagraha"; the pivotal and defining element of Gandhi's ideas is the very "satya", which means "truth" in English. Gandhi seems to have believed that truth must permeate all aspects including politics, ego, society and convention. Furthermore, he spread the concept "ahimsa" meaning nonviolence in English. He thought that we could get rid of anger, obsession and destructive impulses through absolute non-violence. His vegetarianism was also closely related to ahimsa prohibiting killing.

It was natural that his ideas were reflected in the ways he leaded independence movement. Most of all, Gandhi put forth the concept of nonviolent resistance first in the history of independence movement across the world; whereas, until then, independence movements had turned to violence. Gandhi, while an expatriate lawyer in South Africa, witnessed that many Indians were racially discriminated. He struggled for civil rights of his people and first employed civil disobedience, which is also called nonviolent resistance. After returning to India, Gandhi tried to support disadvantaged groups like the poor, women or Untouchables, and establish the harmonious relationship among different religious and ethnic groups. Besides, he led the Non-cooperation movement which is intended to prevent British from occupying India through nonviolent means.

Furthermore, Gandhi's philosophy and leadership have inspired the movements for human rights around the world beyond India. Especially, "nonviolence resistance" has strongly influenced many important leaders like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela or Aung San Suu Kyi. "Christ gave us the goals and Mahatma Gandhi the tactics."; these words from Nelson Mandela show well how deeply his philosophy is imprinted on their mind. It is not just politicians. Gandhi's life and teachings have also inspired many who specifically referred to Gandhi as their mentor or who dedicated their lives to spreading Gandhi's ideas. Meanwhile, the International Day of Non-Violence has been commemorated on 2 October, his birthday since 2007. Really it is not too much to say that he still lives in the hearts of people all around the world.

In short, Gandhi advocated especially truth and nonviolence; practiced them for all his life; and his life and philosophy have influenced many different people around the world. Thus, Tagore, a writer of great literature in India, presented poem to Gandhi while calling him "Mahatma", meaning great soul. From then on, Mahatma has been generally used as the title of Gandhi. How does just Tagore want to ladle out praise? Looking back his contributions to realize peace of human beings, who can deny his greatness?

Hurrah for the Korea's Independence!

On August 15, 1945, all the people cried "Hurrah" with the national flag, Taegeukgi, in their hands everywhere. After the Korean Empire collapsed in 1910, Korea was under Japanese rule from 1910 through 1945. Then Korea finally gained independence from the rule of Japanese Imperialism on this day, so there are several important effects on the Korea's Independence Day.

First of all, Korea cleared away the remnants of Japanese colonialism because of this day. After the Japanese occupied Korea, the Koreans were forced to follow the Japanese rules. For example, the Japanese prohibited using Korean, and the Koreans had to study the Japanese educational contents. Also, they stopped publishing the journals written in Korean. However, people could regain freedom on August 15.

In addition, on the basis of the Korea's Independence Day, Korea became independent country. Korea is a country which has autonomy, but Korea was dominated by Japan for 35 years, so people could not advance views and decide something independently. However, dropping atom bombs on Japan brought the surrender of Japan and the end of World War II. Then Korea recovered the sovereignty of a nation.

Even though Korea regained independence, Korea also became a divided country based on the 38th parallel. Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule but was in state of disorder internally. For this reason, America and Russia decided to do trusteeship, and Korea has been the only divided country in the world so far.

In conclusion, Korea could be free from the Japan and attain independence as a country because of the Korea's Independence Day. However, it also resulted in the tragic division of the Korea peninsula, so it is really happy day, but it still remains the problem of the peaceful unification. This will be the 66th Korea's Independence Day. From now on, people should try to unify North and South Korea.

Jang Jun Hwa, a five-paragraph essay about the causes of happiness

Jang Jun Hwa

200802967

Intermediate English Writing (1)

Tuesday 7-8 period

a five-paragraph essay about the causes of happiness (first draft)

More than Fame and Fortune

             "We are not happy"

This is one of lines from a hand-written poster made by one student in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Four students at KAIST, one of the most prestigious universities in Korea, committed suicide so far this year. Although all people admire them for their educational background, why did these young and intelligent students decide to kill themselves? For university students in their 20s, like us, there must be other causes of happiness rather than fame or fortune.

The first reason of happiness is youth and health. Some people say, "You can chew a stone when you are in your 20s." It means that no matter what young people want to do, they can do it because at least they are healthy enough to give it a try. Also, Okuda Hideo, a famous Japanese novelist, wrote in his book, <Twenty, Tokyo>, "The youth is a privilege. You have a privilege to be ok to fail."(pg.137) Most young people are not afraid of their failures, because they can get another chance, if they try. Youth and health are important factors to be reckoned with.

In addition, it can make university students happy that they are able to receive education. It does not matter what school they study at. The fact itself that they are in an environment to study. That is important. According to Donella Medows, an American environmental scientist, in her column, <Global Village>, only 1% of the world's population gets a college education. University students, that is to say, we are in the privileged classes. We have to remembered how blessed we are.

Finally, dreams which young people have lead to happiness. They usually have big dreams and, to make their dream come true, do their best such as having part-time jobs, saving money or applying for an internship. Dreams and aims can motivate young people to live fully. In other words, they only focus on what they want, so they are able to forget challenging problems.

For people who are college students, happiness depends on youth, health, education and dreams, rather than power or money. I am not trying to say that power and money is totally nothing. It can not be denied that those are important reasons of happiness. However, keep in mind that you already have many factors enough to be satisfied and happy.

Hwang Yoo Jung, Five-paragraph essay for causes of happiness

 Am I happy now?

Hwang Yoo Jung  200904349

Intermediate English Writing I (Tue 78)

April 9, 2011

At this very moment, I am writing. While writing, am I happy? Maybe, maybe not. Then, even doing same thing, why could I be happy or unhappy? And as a writer, how can I write happily? Writers could become happy when they choose writing material out of their own free will, when they interact with readers, and when they are continuously improved through the process. Now let's find the secrets of happiness looking at how a writer seeks happiness through writing.

First of all, we should write with the subject by which we are motivated. If so, we are inclined to research and analyze more actively; as a result, the essay, based on our original thoughts, is livelier. On the other hand, the essay, written obligatorily under pressure, often becomes stale and is too boring to read. Same rules are also applies to studies or jobs. That is, when we study academic areas we choose and work at company we want, we become more autonomous. Furthermore, this type of people, whatever they do, tend to get self-esteem and live more energetically.

Next, we feel more enjoyable when we write communicating with readers. That is, if we argue only our opinion and don't sympathize with readers, naturally our essays are ignored by and isolated from readers. As a result, we, as a writer, also feel alone. The same is true of ones like social, professional or personal relationship. For instance, if we alone make the decision when we are depressed or hard, we could bumble. However, if we share problems with talking together, we feel easier and could make more reasonable decision.

Finally, development is one of natural characteristics of humans. The river flows into sea, and a tree grows up, putting forth young leaves or flowers and yielding plenty of fruit. Like this, writers also become more mature through their writing which becomes enriched day by day. So dose our life. When we challenge, get more experiences and find ourselves better than before, we feel a sense of accomplishment. In contrast, if yesterday is like today and today is like tomorrow, how boring and lethargic life it is! We could feel that we are really living through continuous enhancement.

As there are many people on the world, there are different ways leading to happiness. Especially, however, we feel happier when we take lead at our own life, when we have a good relationship with others, and when we find ourselves more developed. Then, right now, am I writing happily? If I write spontaneously, interact with readers, and can feel my development, I could say that I am really happy. Anyway, I am making an answer hard.

Huiyeong Kim - The five-paragraph essay about the causes of happiness

201181021 Huiyeong Kim

Intermediate English Writing 1 (Tue 7, 8)

Saturday, April 09, 2011

Happiness Is Not Too Far Away

A number of people seek to find happiness in their lives, and they think that they can be happy by getting a great job, earning a lot of money, and buying a huge house and nice car. These things can make their lives wealthy, but it is not true happiness. Even though they are unaware of it, they feel pleased every day because it is right next to you. There are several causes that people feel happy.

First of all, people can be happy from the most basic things. They are pleased with the delicious foods that they want to taste and the sleep that gets enough. For example, some people feel happy drinking a cop of hot chocolate or eating meat when they feel in a bad humor. They also feel delighted by wearing the clothes that they want to express themselves.

Second, being with the people whom you like makes you happy. Human beings are social creatures. They cannot live alone, and they like to get along with other people, so they form relationships each other constantly. For this reason, people especially spend more time with the family, friends, and boy or girl friends in joy and in sorrow because they are close to you and arouse in a smile.

Finally, people can dream about doing something that they desire. Since they were young, they have had a dream at least one. For instance, some people's dreams are to be an interpreter, a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer, a president, a designer and so on. Also, traveling all over the world, being married, and flying in the sky can be a dream for some people. They try to do their best to achieve a dream, and they find happiness in this process and effort towards it.

In conclusion, many people find true happiness from a distance. However, they can find it by just eating, sleeping, wearing, being with people, and dreaming. There is a famous saying, "The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet." Like this, happiness can be everything that makes people pleased. If people are grateful for what they have and grateful for the very simple and small things, everyone can be happy.

Chang-Min Ji, essay for causes of happiness

Three causes of happiness

Anyone experiences a sense of happiness, angry, love, pleasure and other feelings. No matter what sort of hardships they have to endure, they try to overcome and believe the day they hope. They know what happiness is and try to forget something negative. Then, What makes we feel more happy? I would like to classify cause of happiness into three categories ; Satisfying desire to learn, practice to ethical desire, and meeting desire of sensory organs.

First, satisfying desire to learn causes we feel happy. The curious want to learn what he is anxious to learn. It is an instinctive desire. And it has improved our life, society, welfare and so on. But most importantly of all, this desire make us feel more profound pleasure than any other desire.

Next, we feel pleased because of our practice to ethical desire. Anyone has ethical belief. It is either personal ethics or communal ethics such as Confucian morality. It also an primitive instinct. Besides, we are living in our society, which makes people pursue communal ethics.

Last, to meet desire of sensory organs also causes our happiness. When we eat, smell, touch, or hear something good, we become delighted. This desire is the most easy but powerful instinct.

Up to now, I have classified causes of happiness and explained each character ; satisfying desire to learn, practice to ethical desire, and meeting desire of sensory organs. Of course, I hope we are always happy, convenient, satisfied, pleased. But the fact that the unhappy exists makes the moment of happiness more valuable. So, the attitude we should have is to thank our happiness.

Park, JIn-Kyung-Five paragraph essay for causes of happiness

Intermediate writing class(Tue78)

200904082 Park, Jin Kyung

What Do You Live For?

There are so many different countries and different people with different thinking in the world and people live in their own way in their own positions. And if I am asked what they live for or what is the ultimate goal in life, I would say that we live a life for happiness. Then, what should we have in our lives to be happy? Personally, I suppose there are three main factors that make us lead happy lives.

Firstly, you have to have a family to be happy. Just having a family itself could give you happiness although most people don't realize the fact. From my experience, when I went to Australia for studying, I missed my family and I was really scared and felt sad without any reason, so I called my mother everyday for a month. And then, as time goes by, I could manage everything quite well alone without my family. What I realized there was I could do well without them is because I have my family in Korea. That is, since I know they are just always there for me, I could have confidence whenever I met anyone or I faced something new. For me, my family is my driving force in my life.

Another important factor that makes us happy would be health. What is the use of a very expensive house and a car or success in carrier if you are not healthy? If you come down with a disease or get injured seriously, everything that you previously wanted to accomplish or longed for would be meaningless. When I was 15, my aunt got sick and had herself examined in the hospital. The doctor told my aunt to get a thorough medical checkup and she was completely terrified and thought herself that she got a cancer of the stomach. From that day, she quit everything that she really loved and used to enjoy doing. Why? Because they suddenly became nothing for her life. It is funny story as she turned out to be healthy after the thorough medical checkup. However, if she actually got the cancer, the situation would be devastating.

Finally, people need to work to have a happy life. It doesn't matter if the work is professional or respectful and it really doesn't matter if the person is educated or not. All the people need certain amount of work to feel happiness. Just wasting time or money without any job could be fun or enjoyable for short time but not for entire life. The process in which you accomplish something that you have long desired will give you the sense of fulfillment as well as reward. Besides, when you contribute to the society in any way by having a job, no matter what it is, you can build a high level of self-esteem and have a confidence deep in your mind. This whole process will make you feel happy.

Therefore, as far as I am concerned, you should have a close relationship with your family members, try to stay healthy and have a job to lead a happy life. Because family will always be your side, giving you peace and power to cope with anything and if you don't have health, you can never be happy since everything is nothing without health. In addition, working can enrich your life by making you feel high self-esteemed.

Yoon jin soo, p75 five-paragraphs essay

Smile for happiness

"You don't smile because of happiness, Smile to become happy."

The famous comedian, No hong cheul, always says this word.

He is Dr.No who propagates happiness in TV programs.

Maybe the word that he says is just for his concept, but it is true.

It suggests many things about happiness. Some efforts to be

happy can make people happy enough.

First thing is awareness. If people try to aware happiness,

they can realize that they are happy enough. They can see, hear,

eat and laugh when they want. There are so many people who

can't do that. If people think about suffering people, they can

find that they are blessed.

Next thing is standard of happiness. Human is always trying

to achieve something and feels pain because of their efforts.

Because most of people have so high goals. For example,

someone always tries to earn lot of money even if he has

100million dollars but someone thinks he is happy though he

is just poor farmer. Like this, If people think in a leisurely way,

they will be happy.

Last thing is smile. People who always smile are not only

make others happy but also make endorphin in their body.

Endorphin makes human happy, relieves pain and causes another

laugh. The smile which is results of happiness can be cause of

happiness.

Happiness is based on satisfaction. People feel happy when

they achieve their goals. But people's desires are limitless. It means,

people will never satisfy forever. As a result, people always try to

achieve something and feel pains. But they want to be happy right

now. It's ridiculous. If they want happiness in their life, they have to

control their mind first. Because happiness is up to their mind.

Hwang Yoo Jung-a five-paragraph process analysis essay

How legally are laws made in Korea?

Hwang Yoo Jung  200904349

Intermediate English Writing I (Tue 78)

April 2, 2011

One day, imagine that you were heavily insulted by anonymous users over internet chatting. You want to punish them legally. No matter how hard you search all the laws, however, you can't find even one provision. After all, you give up. But while cyber defamation becomes a serious social problem, people begin to demand a new law. This is how the new law can be created like "cyber defamation law" It seems to be a little simple, but it is not in reality. Now let's look into the process in which laws are made stage by stage.

First of all, our constitution says that only the government and a congressman can introduce a bill before Parliament. The government should review the bill in a cabinet meeting before submitting it; whereas, a congressman can propose the bill when over 10 men sponsor it. Besides, the bills, which some actions should be taken on concerning a budget, need the detailed statement. Congressmen, if necessary, can withdraw a draft of a proposed law, but once it is submitted either to a plenary session or a standing committee, it must meet with their approbation. Likewise, the government must get consent from a plenary session or a standing committee when it corrects or withdraws bills raised on the Congress agenda. Also, the Congress can demand to correct bills submitted by the government whereas the government can't do like that.

Next, it is the legislative that evaluates and decides the submitted bills. The proposed bills should be evaluated at the standing committee concerned, and then the decided bills are sent to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee. The Legislation and Judiciary Committee, after reviewing and correcting the bills, refers them to a standing committee. After that, the bills can be decided if the majority of the incumbent Congress members are present and the majority of them approve. Meanwhile, when the bills can't be decided at a standing committee, the Chairman of Assembly submits it himself to a plenary session.

Finally, the law, decided by the legislative, is sent to the government and the President should proclaim it within 15 days. And the law generally comes into force after 20 days from the day of its promulgation. When the President doesn't agree with the decided law, however, he can return it and demand to review again. This is the very presidential veto. In this case, if the majority of current congressmen are present and over two thirds of them approve, the returned law can be decided again. Then, the law becomes effective whether the President consents to it or not.

To bring a new law to effect, the government and the Congress propose it, the legislative review it, and finally the President should sign it. Besides, every country has its own legal system and even in a country, the legal system changes with the times. Really the legal system and jurisprudence is not such simple. In a society governed by law, however, the most important concept should be justice. The law should not support just one group, especially the privileged. Also it should not be interpreted or enacted arbitrarily without social consent. Through the legal system based on justice or social consent etc., society could be more stable.

Volcanoes , facsinating natural creatures

The planet B612, where the little prince lived, had a couple of small volcanoes, two active, one extinct. The little prince carefully cleaned out his active volcanoes. They were very convenient for heating his breakfast in the morning. If they are well cleaned out, volcanoes burn slowly and steadily, without any eruptions. Volcanic eruptions are like fires in a chimney...

On our earth we are obviously much too small to clean out our volcanoes. That is why they bring no end of trouble upon us. Then, what is actually a volcano? A volcano is a kind of hole in the Earth's surface that can allow molten rock and volcanic gases to escape from far below the Earth's surface. Volcanoes can exist in any form, while many of them are mountainous in shape.

Volcanoes are various in shape, but they all erupt in relatively the same process. It begins when the pressure on the molten rock, magma, on the bottom of the volcano starts to build up. This building pressure causes the magma from the chamber to force to go upward to the vent which is the main hole of the volcano, making it getting hotter and hotter.

When it is about to half way up, it turns into lava which is really hot liquid that dissolve all the gasses and molten rock. This process makes more pressure and when the volcano does not have enough space to have all this molten rock and gasses it erupts through the vent. This time, dissolved gasses will suddenly expand into steam and gas, causing a violent eruption.

Most volcanoes on earth are located in narrow designated geographic bands. Most of those bands are located around the edges of the Pacific Ocean. Active volcanoes have also been found in Kenya, Italy, and Iceland. Wherever located, volcanoes are fascinating creatures of nature.

Do you want to be a candidate?

Most students have their dreams ; scientist, teacher, scholar, president or etc. Among them, the most korean male children want to be a president or to be elected as a member of the National Assembly. To become a candidate to run for office in Korea, what do you have to do? Let's see qualification, work ethic and process.

First, we have to hold some qualification. Sex, old, level of education have nothing to do with the right. But we must be at least 25years old. And other elements limit qualification. For example, a person who has something about interdiction, election illegalities, imprisonment, disfranchisement, and so on can be limited to running for office.

Second, we have to have a sense of mission, a kind of work ethic. We would rather try to question ourselves ; why I want to be officer in my own country, how I will make this country be better, what is it better, what method makes my goal achieved. If our own goal were just power, rich or honor, we had better quit the dream.

Last, we have to file for Congress which needs to follow the administrative procedure. We are to register two days before the election day. And we need recommendation of a political party or from 300 to 500 general people. Moreover, we should donate 15 million won to the country.

As you see, it is not easy to become the candidacy for seat in the National Assembly. It has demanding qualification, ethics and procedure. Of course, the most important thing is ethics, integrity and purity which anyone except oneself cannot evaluate objectively. I hope that more and more candidates hold qualification of morality as well as legality.

The Power of Nature, Volcano

"The Republic of Iceland, Indonesia, and Japan"

What comes to mind when you think of these countries? Nowadays, this has been one of the very serious issues in the world. This caused the crisis on flight all over the world, killed a number of people, and made people lose their homes. These are the nations which suffered from the eruption of a volcano, and Korea where it also has the volcanoes, including Mountain Baekdu, is not a safe zone anymore. Then what are the reasons that a volcano erupts?

First of all, it erupts because of the movements of the earth's surface. The Earth is composed of the lithosphere, mantle, and crust. The lithosphere has the several plates like a puzzle, and they move little by little. By moving, they bring about the mantle convection. For this reason, an oceanic ridge and trench that are created.

After this, magma is created by the frictional heat which is caused when the crust collides. It is a viscous liquid, like a jelly, which mixes the molten rock, gas, and other. When it is created, it gradually rises having the low density compared with other rock which has the high density within the mantle. By rising, it has lower pressure, and the amount of gas which is melted in the magma increases.

Finally, magma erupts. The gas makes bubbles like carbon dioxide gas, and the bubbles put pressure on the surface of the earth which covers magma. If there is a weak section, and the surface does not stand the pressure, magma spews from there.

In conclusion, a volcano erupts according to the interaction of the crust, magma, pressure, and the bubbles. Therefore, people cannot just help submitting to the power of nature. However, they should be able to anticipate observing the volcano closely in order to prevent the terrible disaster because it does not occur anymore.
